Eniola Ajibade, iWIST Vice Chair

When did you join or learn about iWIST?

I learned about iWIST while looking for a community that genuinely supports women in science and technology. I joined because the mission aligned strongly with my own values around support, leadership, growth, and giving back.

Why does this organization matter to you and to the community?

This organization matters to me because it creates meaningful opportunities for women to connect, learn, and be supported in tech and engineering spaces where women are still underrepresented. Its commitment to diversity and inclusion helps build confidence, visibility, and leadership among women, which benefits not just individuals but the entire community. It’s a space where I can both contribute my experience and continue growing alongside other inspiring women in STEM. That’s why I was happy to step in as Board Vice chair.

What is your background in STEM?

My background is rooted in science, technology, and business, with a strong focus on applying technology and digital innovation to solve complex, real-world problems. I began my academic journey in the Faculty of Environmental Science, earning a Bachelor of Science in Estate Surveying, which built a strong foundation in analytical thinking, systems analysis, and data-driven problem solving.

I further advanced my expertise, leadership and strategic skills with a Master’s degree in Environmental Economics and Management, where I graduated as a Top Student Award recipient, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with distinction from Thompson Rivers University. These experiences strengthened my ability to bridge technology, business strategy, and sustainable decision-making.

Currently, I work as an Information Management and Information Technology (IMIT) Business Analyst, leading enterprise digital transformation, automation, and process optimization initiatives within the healthcare sector. My work focuses on modernizing systems, improving operational efficiency, and delivering scalable technology-enabled solutions that enhance service delivery and organizational performance.

I was honored with the 2024 Award of Merit from the Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC) for the Shift Premium Automation Project, where I led end-to-end process reengineering, redesign, and optimization. This recognition reflects my commitment to advancing healthcare innovation, delivering measurable outcomes, and driving technology-enabled transformation at scale.

On your own career journey how important was it to have/provide peer support? Why? –

Peer support has been instrumental throughout my career, especially during moments of growth and transition. Having peers, particularly other women in STEM, who understood those challenges made a meaningful difference. Open conversations facilitated knowledge sharing, provided guidance and helped me better navigate challenges.

I remember early in my career, I was considering a leadership role and feeling uncertain if I was “ready”. A colleague supported me by recommending women leadership books, shared her own similar experience and reminded me of the skills and impact I was already demonstrating. That support and encouragement gave me the confidence to take the next step.

Equally meaningful has been the similar opportunity for me to give back by providing much needed support to others whether through listening, sharing advice, and encouraging them to take opportunities. When women are supported, encouraged, and hear “You are ready”, it not only shapes individual careers but strengthens the entire ecosystem and inspires the next generation to step forward with confidence.

What do you see as an opportunity to support women in STEM?

For me, an opportunity to support women in STEM is to intentionally build strong, inclusive communities that prioritize support, collaboration, visibility, and leadership development. That’s why I chose to step into the Board of Director - Vice Chair role so I can help drive meaningful impact, expand access to support, and further advance opportunities for women to lead and thrive in STEM.

By creating spaces where women are connected across industries and encouraged to share real, relatable experiences, we can amplify their voices, work and celebrate their achievements. This kind of support benefits women at every stage from young girls and those exploring or transitioning into STEM careers to experienced professionals ready to move from contributors to confident, visible leaders. Often, meaningful support and visibility are all it takes to unlock the next stage of someone’s career.

What is the difference between iWIST and other sector-based associations?

What makes iWIST different is the sense of community. It goes beyond networking or career advancement. It fosters genuine community, cross-sector collaboration, and intentional support at different stages of the STEM journey from those just starting out to seasoned professionals.

IWIST focus extends beyond professional growth to include belonging, leadership development, collective impact, and helping women show up as their full selves in STEM spaces.

What would you say if someone asked you about iWIST?

In four words; Support, Growth, Community and Fun. I’d say iWIST is a supportive and empowering community for women in STEM. It’s a place to learn, connect, and grow while being encouraged to step into leadership roles and create meaningful impact. It’s where women build confidence, capability, and professional relationships in an inclusive, uplifting environment.

Come attend one of our https://www.iwist.ca/events You’ll experience the energy of the community firsthand and be inspired to join us.

Anything extra you’d like to share?

Being part of IWIST is more than just a professional network. It’s a community where challenges are shared, successes are celebrated, and growth is nurtured. It reminds me that progress is rarely a solo journey, and the power of community and support can transform both personal and career growth.
